Every time Ross says it, I would crack out laughing. But that was “Friends” a TV show, not reality.
So now I am wondering, what does being “on a break” really mean? Part of me believes that it’s just a break-up being done nicely.

But seriously. I think on a break means we’re taking some time off to think of where we are in relation to each other. Ross used this to explore his other options, thus ending the ‘on a break’ period into a breakup.

LailyQ8 has it right. It means different things to him and to her. To him it means a break from exclusivity, a time he can play around with other women and it doesn’t count as infidelity. To her, it means you will just be spending a little less time together, but she still thinks they are a couple. It is a BIG BS.
so basically I am right…him saying “we are on a break” really means “I’m breaking up with you”??
it means that the brake up is in process !
I have never had that said to me before by anyone but after thinking about it I can tell you that if a guy I loved or cared for did say that to me, I would definitely see it as major BS and an undignified and rather sneaky way of easing out of the relationship, not as being nice to me. I have no patience or tolerance for any form of sneakiness or weaseling out of things be it with words or action.
I prefer my pain straight up and clean please, no messing about with my heart or head. But it would be up to me to put a stop to anyone doing that.
So, I would stand very straight and tall and the next thing out of my mouth would be: “This is the last you will ever see of me” or strong words to that effect.
(My unfaltering and overblown Leonine pride would overcomes and get the best of me in a situation like this I’m sorry to say)

From my experience, women have no emotions when it comes to ending things. Or they do a very good job at hiding it, just tune in to your inner woman and don’t care about him supposedly ending it.
Also, perhaps if you provided more details as to what may have led up to him saying this, we would know what he might be trying to say.
So in closing, women are evil and can be emotionless when need be.

My problem is defining what a “Break” is…why can’t he just admit to wanting a break-up.
I said the exact (we need a short break) what i meant was i dont want to be with you , i want to have my own time and maybe explore other options, really if a person loved you he would want to spend every second with u with out breaks! GIVE HIM THE FINGER GIRL!
He won’t admit it because he wants it to come from u .. he doesn’t wanna be tha bad guy … he doesn’t want u to think of him as the “asshole who broke up with me”
