I got this email today and thought of sharing.
A group representing Lothan Youth Achievement Center (LOYAC) is traveling to Kenya in 10 days under the program “Kuwait for Kenya (K4K)”.
K4K is aimed to assist the YCC (Youth Counseling Center) in Mombassa, Kenya. The Center’s objective is to be a safe haven for the youth of Mombassa where HIV is prevalent and hallucinogenic drugs become an escape for young kids.
We are looking for contributions to the YCC that is being refurbished by the volunteers from LOYAC. We would really appreciate if you could donate any of the following items for the center:
1) Books
2) Light weight musical instruments
3) Music CDs
4) Movie DVDs
5) Other recreational items will be welcomed such as playing cards, old gameboys, PSPs, discman, etcWe are also looking for any new and used laptops. Our aim is to purchase 6 laptops and currently have a price of 229 KD from ACER.
We also accept monetary assistance through the purchase of part of a laptop.
Please contact us at 736 7772 or email joannaq8@gmail.com if you would like to make a drop off or a monetary donation towards a laptop.
Oh the Kuwiati angelina wannabeeees MY GOD!
I do not get it, what do you have to do with Kenya? If someone wants to do Charity work, you have Iraq, you have Palestine, you have even in your own country people who need assistance.
African countries get enough assistance from other major charities such as WarChild, Amnesty International, UN Funds, and so on.
I am not sure if you are posting this because they are your friends, or because you believe in it, but whatever your reasons, I hope you do the same if the organisation was Kuwaiti or Islamic and the initative run by Kuwaities.
I’ve been to mombassa four years ago, its like the resort paradise of Kenya - couldnt they find a place where people are seriously dying for help?
purgapurg: “African countries get enough assistance” thats not even close to being a fact. they do get assistance, but not enough.
Why should i believe that?
yeah and why music and DVD’s !!! why american culture!
whats wrong with what theyre doing? atleast theyre helping.. o min 9ijkom iyro7oon iraq or palestine? theyll get killed there!
Although I support charity and volunteer work, I can’t help but wonder, what if we focused on volunteering and donating from Kuwait to Kuwait. How much better would our facilities be?
Our public hospitals have serious problems when it comes to the structure, safety and has MAJOR hygiene issues! Money contributed to improving education, our roads seem to be worse whenever they “renew” it, etc etc
Or maybe contribute to fixing the electricity problem in Kuwait before giving others what we’re lacking
I wonder why most people think that if we do charity work in Africa for instance it means we won’t localy or in other countries!
shopa because the level of people in need in kuwait is increasing very fast and large every year without anyones notice…
and we have many many people suffering in our own country, imagine they true live in a place with a roof, but they suffer many days without food, ..etc
I think it is all very well to do good for others and as selflessly as possible.
However, I firmly believe that charity does begin at home and we have MANY people in Kuwait in desperate need of a helping hand.
I know of two blogs that deal with local issues. Perhaps others can guide us to more:

Shopa - it doesn’t mean that we’re not going to do it locally, and I full heartedly encourage charity to other countries - it’s just the concept of inbadee bily 3indina and then give to the rest. I hear of a lot families that can’t afford every meal. They ask to pick up the leftovers if people they know have a party or gathering. They’d drive all the way just to pick them up - that lasts them more than a day worth of food…and like Judy said, the number of families in need in Kuwait are increasing…
