While getting my hair done.
Lady #1: Shopa? Oh my god, it’s you Shopa!
Me: Yup that’s me. I am sorry, you look familiar.
Lady #1: It’s me! Lady #1!
Me: Oh my god, you look different. I haven’t seen you in what? seven years?
Lady #1: Yes and I look different now. I am a mother of two, baby boy #1 and baby girl #1.
Me: Oh really? This is great news. So you finished school?
Lady #1: well, kind of. Tell me about you, are you married?
Me: (showing her my finger) Nope. No ring yet.
Lady #1: Husbands are not important anyway. No boyfriend?
Me: Nope! Single and available.
Lady #1: Oh, poor Shopa. I am sorry!
Lady #2: Shopaaaaaa, great to see you again.
Me: Hey, it’s been a while.
Lady #2: Yeh, you keep disappearing.
Me: Well, I don’t live here anymore.
Lady #2: Ofcourse you don’t! How would you live here with no husband?
Me: Mmmm just like all the other single girls?
lady #2: Oh you know what I mean.
Me: No, I don’t.
Lady #2: have you heard? “A” got married and “B” is soon to be a mother.
Me: Glad to hear such good news.
At a funeral.
Lady #3: Whose daughter are you?
Me: Shopa’s Mum daughter.
Lady #3: How old are you?
Me: 25.
Lady #3: (addressing Lady #4) Is she married?
Lady #4: I don’t know. (Now, asking me) Are you?
Me: No.
Lady #3: (addressing Lady #4 once more) WEEH, 25 and not married! I wonder why?
Lady #4: Although she seems nice
Lady #5: (I have no idea who she is) Because she doesn’t want to; she is a smart girl.
Welcome to my world
yupp.. on my way there.
Sometimes i feel that kuwaiti women prefer to be married and miserable than alone and happy, which is pethatic to be honest!
People have to realize it is COMPLETELY RUDE to ask “did you get married?”
the other day I saw a girl I haven’t seen since high school she looked different and not in a good way. She told me about all the girl who got married since high school including her, so she asked: “ma tizawajtay?” The answer is “no” so she goes like: “wee allah yarzigich ib wil il 7alal” and her facial expressions shway ow tabchi.
il mishkila inha she looks miserable. If this what marriage does to people hell i don’t want it.
lool.. shakli ana ba9eer nafsich ina a few years..
I cannot believe you are single either, then again you are short, so maybe that is why.
TF,
we should form a group
Enigma,
7ayach ;P
Hasan,
one of the reason I am still single is I don’t believe of marrying for the sake of marriage. I actually rather be single and happy than married and sad.
Papi,
the only one who gets my posts ;*
Peony,
you never know..
Purg,
why can’t you believe this?
my god
will these women never learn to mind their own bussiness!
We should create a matching service for bloggers
You are very outgoing and a bit nuts, so shouldn’t be hard for you to find/steal someone.
eshda3wa,
never.
yazeed,
why would you come up with such a silly idea?
purg,
You know I don’t steal.
So guys like nut women?
These are the typical questions the every girl in Kuwait must be asked :
Did u get married ??? or in the other way “ leesh ma tezawajtaay le al7eeen ?? what the hell !!! aswee AD ??? or what ??
I ve just get married and am 26 I am thanking God I didn’t get married earlier . I hate girls who make their priority in life is getting a husband .
Moreover questions never ends , now the question that I am facing is “ when r u going to get pregnant ?? tra u r getting old !!!!!!! weee3 shtbooon it`s non of your business
Heheh ambeeh waayed eshta6eet
Yes they do.
new bride,
I keep wonderwing what would be their next question? when will you get a divorce?
Purg,
good to know.
Alia,
this weekend I met a divorced girl who is 22, she has a 4 year old, doesn’t have a degree, doesn’t work, and basically has no plan in her life.
New statistics out in the US show a dramatic drop in the divorce rate. Why? People are marrying LATER! Hang in there, and don’t sell yourself short.
like Papillona said, they wish for the single to marry only for them to try the misery they live through lol
may i join the club ?, i’m the oldest of the girls in the family so all eyes r on me and all of them got married but no way i’m only 20 that’s gotta wait for sure
and surely being single has it own privilges.
Intlxpatr ,
I agree. A big reason behind divorce is getting married at early ages
KM,
Exceer,
But I chose not to live the misery ;P
Zabo0o6a,
sweetheart, you are still young! VERY young ;P
wait for me, i’m joining in a year
I once wrote a poem for a postmodern poetry class called here and there

No relation to your post of course other than the title.
Oh…and no. I don’t really write poetry. But we had to do that for that darn class. The result is shocking
Same thing here :/
Some people just give u the look! others ege6oon elkalam belwayh …

Why are ppl so frikin nosey about your personal life???
You know, marriage is all about being ready for it and in love too. Not forcing yourself to get married just for the sake of society.
Ppl have to understand u have your OWN life and if u are not ready to get married - so what!! Your decision- your life.
We shud try to help these ppl find sumthin to do!
I have the opposite situation - I am 25 and I have been married for 6 years, and have 2 kids. Everyone tells me that it was too early to get married and too early to have kids- IMAGINE!
But thats what I wanted and I was ready and In love and I wanted my babies and I still want more kids. Nobody is ever happy with anything so just ignore them…. and live you life you way…
Live your life your way!! Sorry bout that
say “I’m not married” just like telling good news (ebshara) with a feeling of satisfaction and happiness and a big smile. it’s working for me
and i no longer get THAT feeling.
ya3ni let your positive feeling get in to them, just before their negative reaction get in to you.
Two of my friends say “ilfal lich” and phrases/things that come along with that in a way that makes me feel they feel sorry for me everytime someone we know gets married. You want to know the funny thing? They’re not married/engaged, and by the looks of it, they’re not even close.
It’s annoying. Oo ba3dain this whole obsession with getting married is becoming too annoying really. If it happens then thats great! If you already know someone and want it to work out, then that’s great also, but for the love of God just because we’re not married in our mid twenties does not make us a target of pity! And it certainly doesn’t mean we’re worse off or less happy, most of the time its the other way around.
next time when some one ask u the question tell them
i am smarter than that:P
I scanned the comments, so madry if im restating something thats already been said…..but in reply to Kila Ma6gog…
sa7 kalamik…ilsoal ilmfroth ykon 3adi o mafi shay….ana kilish ma ythygny ilso2al..its the way our culture is…marriage…kids…..etc is part of the package here….
bs mo hatha ily yaqhir..!
The way the respond….by facial features…or what they say is the problem.
Y3ni they make u feel like an insect just cuz ur not married. On more than one occasion i get a reply like this, with a very sad face: “Laaaa, lail7en ma tzwjtay….yalla inshallah inshallah nfra7 fech etc etc”
They make it sound like the end of the world. I never cared about not being married until ppl started giving me that sad face and treating me like some poor unfortunate soul.
E o bs….
Shopaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
b7ibik kteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer !!
passive
didn’t you notice that?
Judy …
LOL
It’s the same in all GCC societies.. I am actually considering going away for a degree just to escape this social pressure! I’m 25 just like you and facing the exact same scenarios; I wonder what’ll happen when I’m 30 ? -_-
They just can’t get it .. when you’re totally convinced that you’re not marriage material, not before 30 at least .. what’s in it for them ? & why should we suffer just so that they get the chance to dance in a grand wedding and showoff for a couple of nights?!
Escaping is my plan and I’m sticking to it!
Viva bachelorhood! =)
Aham shay at a funeral they were asking you that, its hilarious and sad at the same time.
I hate it when they ask that question, especially women who i have never met in my life!
