Penne Pasta with Red Pepper and Basil Sauce

Here I am sitting at my desk eating the leftover pasta from my friend’s lunch and wondering how on earth I turned out to be this pathetic girl that eats alone at her desk during lunch hour.

This week has been crazy. This new job is seriously wearing me out. Yes, I’ve always been busy and a workaholic but I actually enjoyed myself; now I am hating what I’m doing and wished I haven’t moved.

Oh well, I think I am one of those people who can’t stay still and has to be on the move all the time. I am confused. Not emotionally like I always do, but more like a career confusion. So I heard back from this school etc etc etc and basically I made it in. It’s a great program and all BUT and there is always a but, the timing is wrong. I was already planning something else thinking this would not work. The problem is, what I am planning is not confirmed yet. I’ve spoken to people etc etc yet nothing is on paper yet. To make things harder, I just got an offer for this great position at this company in Kuwait. I worked with them on couple of projects in the past meaning I have friends and already know the environment blah blah blah, so now I am really confused.

A side note, so far things have been great. I already like 2007. Let’s just hope things don’t change.

I know you do not listen to me, but this is what I advice you to do.

If you decide to persue more studies, then I recommend you take the step now and go for it. Go all the way to PHD if you have the time and financial part covered.

If you decide you do not want to study, and continue to work, then leave your company, come back to Kuwait and find a job somewhere else, which can be suitable. If you stay abroad for too long you will never be able to adjust here nor will you have a normal life, you will be always have a confused identity between your foreign life and your life in Kuwait. Also put this in your mind, your parents will not always be here, so try to spend time with them now.

It is useful to gof or PHD only and only if you wanna quit industry and work in academic.

When I faced a decision in a similar situation that you are in, (it was either come to the states now, or work for 2 years and come here), my dad told me:
“whatever you decide to do, dont look back”
its simple but true, things always work out in the end, dont they?

    allah yi3eenich oo ysahil inshallah

and i cant believe i’ve read a serious comment from purg, now i have seen it all!

Getting a masters is useless these days, esp. since you did not do it after graduation, its better to spend that time working and get paid for it. PHD can get you into academic initially, but after a while you can move out somewhere else, depending on your speciality. With the increase in pay for academics, it is not as bad.

    Yazeed,
“whatever you decide to do, dont look back”
See? you have to decide first, this is the hard part.

    Purg,
Well, you can always work and get a Masters and veen better make your company pay you to go to school. In my case, it’s not about the money; it’s more of doing something to myself that I actually like…..

how do you exactly feel about the “M” word?!

  11. 11 Dr.Lost Jan 14th, 2007 at 5:21 am

i agree 100 % with purg..and like u said, a PhD will only be useful in kuwait if its an academic position that you’re lookin for.. tough decision to take, take your time, dont rush things, take everyone’s opinions into consideration then do the following:

get a piece of paper and pen, and list down all the pros and cons of your different options, then decide..

    good luck..

and wtf does someone always have to bring up the bloody “M” word?? why why why?! enuf already, its 2007 people !
